Advance Denim has partnered with Lenzing Group to redefine eco-conscious denim with the adoption of TENCEL Lyocell, HV100 by securing exclusive rights to use the fiber. The denim producer has demonstrated that sustainability and demand for authentic denim can successfully coexist.
TENCEL Lyocell HV100 addresses a long-standing challenge associated with earlier lyocell applications in denim. Traditional TENCEL Lyocell fibres often produced fabrics with a shinier surface and higher drape, limiting their ability to replicate the rugged, opaque appearance of classic cotton denim. HV100 overcomes this barrier through Lenzing’s proprietary Variocut technology.
By introducing controlled irregularities in fibre length, HV100 delivers a textured, matte and semi-dull finish. The fiber’s unique distribution enables authentic wash-down effects and vintage aesthetics. Crucially, this innovation allows TENCEL Lyocell to be effectively used in warp yarns, a domain traditionally dominated by cotton, making 100 per cent TENCEL denim with authentic looks commercially viable.
From a sustainability perspective, HV100 aligns closely with Advance Denim’s environmental ambitions. The fibres are derived from sustainably managed wood sources certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC). Production takes place in a closed-loop system that recovers and reuses more than 99.8 per cent of solvents, significantly reducing environmental impact.
