31st edition of Amazon India Fashion Week concludes

“The good thing is that this is about the designing community at large. You could have just graduated out of college, but if you have talent, then Designer Boutique is ready to give you a fillip.” said by Sunil Sethi, FDCI president. FDCI and Amazon collectively hosted a seminar to introduce ‘Designer Boutique’ where the benefits of retailing clothes online were highlighted. A blend of floral embellishments, exaggerated silhouettes and ingenuous ideas were the highlight of the 31st edition of Amazon India Fashion Week which concluded without a grand finale at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium this weekend.

“The connection with the young generation is the freshness that florals bring out. We play them with soothing colours that go well on young women.” quoted by Kavita Bhartia, who had a stall.

Tom Tailor’s India partner, Devender Gupta which showcased its smart blouses with floral embroidery along with outfits on the ramp, said what designers bring is aspirational and not many people can afford their clothes. Tom Tailor in its show highlighted the beauty of Indian fabrics even though it was used in a westernised avatar.

The surprise element with 3D hand embroidered flowers seen in a stark black and white collection was showcased by Gauri and Nainika.

Sonam Dubal combined his signature velvet and mirror-work pieces with vintage textiles to lend an old world charm to his outfits. He said that “My goal has been to restore balance, to find solace in artisanal work done by hand-printing, embroidery and weaving, with an awareness of each other’s abilities,” Chikankari embroidery made a comeback as Anupama Dayal’s collection Fida-e-Lucknow was about aesthetics of the city, patronised by the Mughals.

The Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) provided ramp to fashion retail brands along with a platform for designers to showcase their designs. The FDCI gave space to the final year students of the Pearl Academy to showcase their creations on the final evening of the Week. A mix of modern and classic Indian ensembles like oversized tops, pyjamas, anti-fitted kurtas and blouses was highlighted by Nida Mahmood.Fluid silhouettes like dhoti saris teamed with cocktail jackets were shown by Malini Ramani.
