SeaDyes, a startup focused on developing dyes from seaweed, has entered the company creation phase of Scottish Enterprise’s High Growth Spinout Programme after receiving £200,000 in funding. The company was founded by Jessica Giannotti, a marine scientist and biotech innovator, in July 2023. In early 2025, it joined The James Hutton Institute, a leading research institute in Scotland, as a spin-in company.

SeaDyes has been developing its seaweed-based dye technology that offer a safer and more sustainable alternative to petroleum-based dyes, which contribute significantly to environmental pollution. In addition to the current funding and institutional support, SeaDyes is now seeking further investment from new partners to continue its growth.

With support from Scottish Enterprise and The James Hutton Institute, the startup has successfully created working dye prototypes. It has also connected with more than 100 potential customers and formed long-term research, development, and business partnerships within the industry.
