Nigerian govt urged to ban import of foreign fabrics

The Federal Government of Nigeria has been urged to ban import of foreign fabrics to revive the nation’s ailing textile mills. According to Alhaji Sani Muhammad, the Administrative Secretary of Zamfara Textile Industry located in Gusau, importation of textile materials had led to the collapse of the nation’s textile sector.

Muhammad lamented that Zamfara Textile, established in 1965, had layed off over 2, 500 workers in 2004. It is unfortunate that the industry is not able to come back fully.

Central govt in talks with states to allot land for textile parks

The central government has decided to set up 20 textile parks to boost textile industry in the country for which the centre is in talks with Uttarakhand and some other states so that land for these projects can be allotted. The proposed parks will eventually develop industrial hubs across the country, said Union Minister for Textiles Santosh Gangwar during his visit to Haridwar on Sunday to take feedback of people for the upcoming Union Budget.

While apparel garment units are being set up to promote the textile sector. A special emphasis is being laid on the technical textile sector.

Blended yarn price edges down in China, India

In Qianqing, PC (65/35) 32s yarn prices edged down US cent 1 a kg in the third week of January while 45s PC combed yarn prices rolled over on the week.

Price offers for blended spun yarn dropped less sharply in China, ahead of lunar year holidays. Polyester-cotton prices have however been lowered in Qianqing, in line with a slight decline of cotton prices.

Yarn producers were trying to reduce their inventories before holidays and were ready to negotiate prices further.

Viscose yarn prices steady in Asian markets

In China, mainstream prices of 40s compact siro-spun yarn in Jiangsu slid to 19.65 Yuan a kg (US$3.00 a kg) while 30s spun viscose in Xiaoshan rolled over at 17.10 Yuan a kg (US$2.61 a kg) in the third week of January.

Offers and selling ideas were reportedly steady for spun viscose yarn in China that week. They were adjusted up somewhat, indicating another way of closing offers as VSF prices stopped falling.

In India, 30s viscose spun yarn prices inched up INR1 a kg (down US cents 2 due to weak INR) in Indore market.

Bangladeshi govt to reduce tax for garment manufacturers

In order to help exporters upgrade factories and boost investments, government of Bangladesh is set to revive the option of reduced corporate tax rate for the garment sector.

From fiscal year 2005-06 till 2013-14, the sector paid corporate tax at a reduced rate of 10 percent.

However, this provision was expired on 1st July, 2014 and the government did not extend it again, meaning the sector paid tax at the 35 percent rate in fiscal 2014-15.

Silk expo organized in Jammu to promote silk sector in the state

Ethiopian textile export touch USD41.1mn last six months of Fiscal year

Export performance of the textile sector is lagging behind plan during the 2015/16 fiscal year first half year. This is found at the cotton development and textile industry performance evaluation, the Ethiopian Textile Industry Development Institute (ETIDI) announced that the export of textile has reached 41.1 million USD against the nation’s plan to obtain some 60.07 million USD. Only 70 percent of the plan has been achieved.
