Approval received for opening textile skill centres in Malwa

The cabinet has approved proposal put forward by Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Bathinda MP and union food processing industries minister for opening of two textile skill centres in Malwa region. One such centre would come up in a rural area of Bathinda and the other in Mansa.

Two days ago, the minister was inform about opening of two centres in the region by the textiles ministry.

Bathinda is known as cotton belt and the Centre wants to develop it as textile hub and opening of skill centres is the first step, the minister said.

Cooperative textile mills will be allowed to sell excess land to overcome crisis

Around 50 co-operative textile mills in Maharashtra are sick, closed or under liquidation process with losses in the range of Rs 10-40 crore each. The government's share in their capital ranges from 80% to 45%.

In order to save these mills from losses, Maharashtra government may soon allow the mills in the state to sell off excess land in their possession. These mills were never given permission to sell the extra land, despite repeated requests to this effect. The government has not yet decided on whether there should be a cap on saleable land.

To recover losses and revive sick cooperative textile mills in the Maharashtra state, a major step being considered under the comprehensive plan of cooperative structure is whether to allow sick textile mills to sell of excess land in their possession, said textile minister Chandrakant Dada Patil.

The government's share in their capital ranges from 80% to 45%. Most of them are spinning mills. Each unit has loss in tune of Rs20-40 crore.

Viscose price increase decelerates in Asia

Viscose staple fiber markets firmed up in China and prices continued to rise in the second week of August, due to higher cost amid Yuan depreciation. Low priced medium-to-low-end goods were generally cancelled, and fresh trading prices were fixed at a higher level. Mainstream producers raised offers weekend setting the bottom prices for medium-end and high-end goods.

Pulp price slips in China after recent gains

In China, due to Yuan depreciation, buyers were relatively resistant towards imported pulp. Dissolving pulp markets saw no fresh offers in the second week of August. However, firm deals were found at US$860-870 a ton for hardwood pulp while offers for materials from other Asian regions and Europe to be available in coming week, are expected on a firm note.

In China, dissolving pulp market drew more attention from domestic viscose producers, due to RMB depreciation. Pulp mills raised offers, and trades were down US$45 a ton from last week.
