TCP likely to issue fresh tender once again to offload balance cotton

Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) the state-run grain trader is facing difficulties in offloading cotton, procured on the federal government directives during the last season to support the farmers and stabilise its prices in the domestic market. TCP has conducted four tenders for the sale of 95,400 cotton bales (Crop Year 2014-15), of which, two tenders have been scrapped by the state-run grain trader as bids were lower than the reserve price. Some 10,800 cotton bales have been sold through remaining two tenders.

Paraxylene price plunges in Asia as demand shrinks

Paraxylene prices declined in Asian markets in the third week of August as availability increased amid weak demand. China's Ningbo Zhongjin Petrochemical achieved on-spec paraxylene and benzene output from its new aromatics plant in eastern Zhejiang province earlier this week. Orthoxylene prices also fell amid declines in upstream and downstream demand. Asian paraxylene markers fell US$39 a ton FOB Korea and CFR Taiwan/China both on the week.

MWE plan to set up new manufacturing facility in Vietnam

MWE Holdings Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary United Sweethearts Garment Sdn Bhd (USG) is planning to expand its textile operations which includes setting up a new plant in Vietnam.

Group managing director for MWE, Tang Chong Chin said that the company would focus on its textile division, the core business of MWE, to drive growth for which the company will be investing US$7million (RM29.3 million). Bulk of the investment would be for the new manufacturing facility in Vietnam.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to strengthen the textile sector in the state has taken up measures to boost the growth of the textile sector. The textile industry in Indonesia is currently facing pressure from both inside and outside the country. The slowing economic growth of the country led to a decline in the people’s purchasing power causing lower demand for textile products in domestic market.

Ade Sudrajat, chairman of Indonesia Textile Association (API), said that due to lack of demand, the factories cannot produce as the goods produced 2-3 months back are still in their warehouses. Most of these companies are small-scale with 360 employees on average, he added.

The Pakistan cotton market on Monday after an improvement in phutti supply, trading activity improved as exporters also took part due to slip in rates. Dealers said that the official spot rate sustained overnight level at Rs 4,550. While, cotton prices in Sindh were lower by Rs 50 to Rs 2300 and Rs 2400 and in Punjab rates at Rs 2200 and Rs 2400.

In the ready business, over 16,000 bales of cotton changed hands between Rs 4600 and Rs 4700, dealers said.

Commerce Minister Engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan after a meeting with the Australian High Commissioner disclosed that Pakistan's textile, clothing and footwear will be the beneficiary of the reduction in the duty by the Australian Government. As the Australia has slashed duty on Pakistani products mainly textile products by 50 percent - from 10 percent to five percent - in response to concerted efforts of incumbent government especially the Commerce Ministry.
