In India, 30s (65/35) PV yarn prices edged down US cents 5 a kg in the last week of August in Indore market. PC 30s (52/48) prices fell further US cents 7 a kg in Ludhiana market.

In Pakistan, polyester-cotton yarn prices declined as PSF and cotton prices were subdued in recent weeks. Overall, with textile production progressively returning to a seasonal high, demand for fiber was improving. 24 PC (52/48) carded yarn prices in Pakistan fell US cents 9 a kg on the week on the Faisalabad market while 30s were down US cents 12.

The Department of Horticulture, Punjab, has proposed a new State Plan Scheme for Catalytic Development Programme during the current financial year to sustain the development of sericulture in the State. In the Punjab State, sericulture is practiced in the sub-mountainous area — mainly in four districts of Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Hoshiarpur and Ropar.

Around 1,200 beneficiaries are covered under sericulture and the total annual production of mulberry cocoon in the state is 25 tonnes.

The U.S. has remained Vietnam’s largest export market among 200 countries and territories worldwide, a position it took over from the EU, which had held it since 2012, at the end of last year. According to official figures from the General Statistics Office (GSO), Vietnam earned $28.5 billion from shipments to the U.S. in 2014, up 19.6 percent compared with 2013.

Vietnam ran a US$17.2 billion trade surplus with the U.S. in the first eight months of this year, a 20.3 percent rise from $14.3 billion the country earned in the same period last year.

Algerian-Turkish partnership agreement was signed on integrated textile complex project in south-western province, Relizane (300 km southwest of Algiers) on Thursday. The Minister of Industry and Mining Abdeslam Bouchouareb chaired the signing ceremony.

The agreement was signed by the chief executive officer of the national public group of clothing industry CH, Mohamed Bouchama, and the CEO of the Turkish group, Taypa Mesut Toprak, specializing in textile.

In the last week of August, viscose yarn prices were seen falling in India in Indore market, although VSF prices rolled over which were last revised up in early May. This implies poor demand both in domestic as well as export markets. 30s viscose spun yarn prices were down US cents 7 a kg in Indore market.

In China, compact siro-spun 40s yarn price in Jiangsu was up US cents 4 a kg on the week while rayon weaving yarn 30s in Xiaoshan was up US cents 2 a kg. In Pakistan, 30s and 40s viscose yarn prices rolled over in Karachi market.

Spinners are planning to reduce the cost of energy consumed by purchasing new energy efficient motors and energy saving electrical equipment. Therefore, the South India Spinners’ Association has proposed the State Government to provide capital subsidy on these energy saving machines.
