Iowa State University (ISUs) research team is part of a partnership to improve the overall design and function of new military protective gear used in the military, emergency response and more. The ISU research team will be lead by Guowen Song, associate professor and the Noma Scott Lloyd Chair in Textiles and Clothing.

ISU is one of 31 universities involved in the AFFOA partnership, and the new institute is part of the National Network for Manufacturing Innovation, a network Song said was created to improve manufacturing in the country.

Pakistan cotton market on Thursday saw rise in prices with demand for quality lint surging, dealers said. According to the market sources, renewed buying was witnessed as small size of high-grade lint cotton was left with the ginners. There was no motivating factor which propelled spinners for new purchasing just shortage of fine quality.

The official spot rate increased by Rs 50 to Rs 5,250. In the Punjab prices of seed cotton were at Rs 2400 and Rs 3000 while in the ready business, over 9,000 bales of cotton changed hands between Rs 5000 and Rs 5600, dealers said.

All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) has urged the government to completely remove the Gas Infrastructure Development Cess (GIDC) from the entire textile chain to enable it to regain its competitive edge and market share.

Tariq Saud Chairman APTMA in view of declining oil prices and natural gas prices in the international market there is no justification for imposition of GIDC on textile industry which is already burdened and has become uncompetitive vis-à-vis to their regional competitors in the absence of liquidity flow and high cost of doing business.

Asian PTA markers edged down US$1 a ton CFR China in the fourth week of March. Yisheng Petrochemical issued daily cash-based price for PTA which was unchanged on the week while Hengli Petrochemical issued self-lifting offer for bonded cargoes which was flat from the previous week.

Purified terephthalic acid prices opened and closed the week with decline in prices and recording one-day gain on Tuesday on firmer paraxylene cost. In China, domestic spot PTA market was weak and offers generally rolled over and discussions were slightly lower. On week end PTA market was mute.
