Jordan investors show interest to invest in textile industry of Pakistan

Honorary Consul General to Jordan Yousuf Farrukh informed the Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan that Jordan investors were interested to invest in textile industry of Pakistan. Joint ventures would be preferred.

Jordan also desired to see Pakistani investment in textile sector there. They also wanted to import textile products from Pakistan for which purpose a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed at TEXPO exhibition, held recently in Pakistan.

MEG price falls in Asia, stable in Europe

Asian MEG markers fell US$4 a ton CFR China in the last week of March. In China, offers for nearby-month goods fell to US$700 a ton, and trading values softened to US$695-700 a ton.

Mono ethylene glycol prices fell on the week on profit taking and weak futures. MEG prices have been climbing since early February and early week had stayed firm over US$700 a ton CFR China.

Most traders wanted to close out their positions and take profits to hedge against a likely correction in prices.

Paraxylene price continues upward trend across all regions

Asian paraxylene prices inched up US$8.83 a ton FOB Korea and CFR Taiwan/China in the last week of March. Asian contract price for April was finally settled and was up US$70 a ton.

Paraxylene prices in Asian markets rose on the week on firm crude and higher PTA futures. Asian contract price for April was settled up on the month. March ended with a rise of 8.5% or US$61.

In US, spot paraxylene gained from last week, hovering at Asia netback while March contract price settled on the month. Spot paraxylene gained US$20 a ton FOB USG on the week.

Blended yarns export volume rises 9.7 per cent YoY

India’s blended spun yarns export value was up 4.9 per cent YoY in February 2016 while volumes rose 9.7 per cent as compared to the same month last year.

6.4 million kg of PC yarns was exported from India during the month. Polyester cottons yarns were exported to 57 countries in February 2016, of which, Bangladesh and Egypt were the largest importers of PC yarn from India followed by Morocco.

Argentina, Pakistan, Indonesia and Poland were the fastest growing markets for PC yarns while Chile significantly reduced its import of PC yarns from India.

No trading activity seen happening at cotton market

With dwindling stock of quality lint, ginners have raised asking price of quality lint due to which not a single deal was finalized on the cotton market on Monday. The official spot rate also remained unmoved at Rs 5,350 dealers said. In the Punjab prices were at Rs 2400 and Rs 3100.

According to market sources, some of the ginners who held back quality lint on hopes of better income in the coming days, raised asking prices, but the spinners showed no interest in fresh buying.

Sympatex Technologies, a German functional textile business and leading global suppliers of high tech functional materials in clothing, footwear, accessories, protective workwear (Contract & Workwear) and technical applications will present new outer and lining materials made of recycled PET bottles at the Performance Days in Munich.

Sympatex worked with Italian thermal insulation company Thermore and Italian yarn specialist Sinterama to develop the materials, said Haymo Strubel, director apparel at Sympatex Technologies.

The Centre has temporarily fixed a revised ceiling price for 50 kg foodgrain sackings procurement to stop price manipulation of jute bags. According to sources, the price of jute sackings, which is based on a cost plus formula, is normally fixed every month on the previous three months’ moving average price of raw jute and other cost such as power and labour.

However, it is alleged that the “malpractices of handful of mills” saw the raw jute prices soar since the second half of November.

The fifth annual fibre and textile workshop will be held for five days from April 18-22 at the Ad Astra Hostel at Whanganui Girls' College, organized by Fibre Arts New Zealand, the event which has six international tutors, each in a different field of fibre arts and more than 80 people from as far as Australia will meet to expand their artistic armoury. Creativity is set to hit Whanganui this month.

Co-organiser Julz Coffey said that the event is huge for the Whanganui arts community and is growing every year. They have a total of 81 people enrolled this year (up from 60 last year).
