Bangladesh govt allocates Tk1,000 cr for BJMC

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the regular cabinet meeting yesterday gave directives to allocate the fund for Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC). After the meeting, the Jute and Textile Ministry announced that the government has allocated Tk1,000 crore fund for 27 state-owned jute mills in the country.

The BJMC has 27 jute mills under it, with 70,000 employees. Among them, 32,000 are permanent and the remaining employees work on a contractual basis.

Nylon yarn price moves up in China

In China, semi-dull FDY70D/24F prices increased US cents 4-7 a kg in the last week of March while FDY40D rose US cents 3-7 a kg. Nylon DTY 70D/24F prices were up US cents 5 a kg while 30D/10F prices rolled over on the week.

Monofilament 30D prices inched up on the week while 1.5D staple fiber rose US cents 7-10 a kg during the week.

The past inventory built-up by nylon filament yarn makers have been restraining prices to go up in spite of firming caprolactum and nylon chips cost. Nylon yarn makers had ramped up operating rate with expectation that fundamentals will become favorable.

Caprolactum prices surge on tight supply

Offers for liquid good in China jumped US$60 a ton in the last week of March while solid goods offers rose US$35 a ton. Asian markers, the SE and FE markers gained US$30-50 a ton.

Sinopec announced April contract which was up US$80 a ton from March settlement for liquid goods while Fibrant (formerly DSM Nanjing) announced April nomination which was up US$90 a ton for liquid goods.

Jiangsu Sunshine Group to invest $350mn to set up textile plant in Ethiopia

Chinese conglomerate Jiangsu Sunshine Group plans to make investment of $350 million to set up a textile plant in Ethiopia in a bid to boost the country’s textile industry as the textile industry is believed to be a bridge for economic development and making Ethiopia Africa's textile industry hub.

The plant will be located in the industrial park of the city of Adama which will produce 10 million meters of worsted wool fabrics and 1.5 million finished parts.

The project has been announced as Ethiopia battles one of the worst droughts since the last in 1983.
