Rising benzene price supports downstream nylon chain

Asian benzene was dearer in the last week, ended on 1st April 2016, amid stable crude while demand in US is yet to rebound. Asian benzene markers were up US$9-13 a ton on the week and rose 15.1 per cent on the month. In Europe, spot price was down on weak demand while monthly contract price was fully settled. In US, spot was pressured by excess supply while April contracts rose amid closed arbitrages to US. April settlement marked the third consecutive split settlement, in line with market expectations. In Latin America, spot benzene dipped, tracking USG pricing.

Surat is the country's biggest man-made fabric (MMF) centre having over 6.5 lakh powerloom weaving machines, employing over 8 lakh workers manufactures over three crore meter of fabric per day. The textile exporters have been seeking review of India’s trade agreements like the Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and Preferential trade Agreements (PTAs) to check decline in India's merchandise exports have been contracting for the last 15 months.

India's 40% of the total exports are handled by the MSME sector which feels that it's the country's trade agreements which are not helping them much for competing globally.

The power loom clusters in Coimbatore and Tirupur districts have not adopted technology much and do not have trained manpower which is affecting production. They need to look at upgrading technology and should diversify to varieties of fabrics to get better prices, according to industry sources.

Viscose yarn prices rise in Asian markets

In China, prices of 40s compact siro-spun yarn in Jiangsu were lifted in Yuan terms in the fourth week of March, however, unchanged in US terms due to weak currency while 30s spun viscose in Xiaoshan were up US cents 2 a kg on the week.

Blended yarn prices up in India, Pakistan

In Qianqing, PC (65/35) 32s and 45s PC combed yarn prices were both down US cents 2 a kg due to weak Yuan in the fourth week of March.

Blended yarn prices stabilized in China, in line with a similar trend in fibre prices. PSF prices have slightly declined in the week while cotton prices continued dropping with the benchmark indicator falling 2% over the week. Viscose was progressing supporting PV markets.

In Pakistan, 24 PC (52/48) carded yarn further gained PakRe1 per pound (up US cents 2 a kg) on the Faisalabad market while 30s also gained PakRe1 per pound (up US cents 2 a kg).
