TCIB new textile training institution to curb shortage of skilled workers

The training institution for textiles and apparels manufacturing, called Textile and Clothing Institute of Botswana (TCIB), is expected to open its doors next month, said of the Botswana Textile and Clothing Association, Mohammad Shahid Ghafoor.

The training institution is a step in the right direction for the local industry which will offer one year certificate courses in clothing manufacturing in a wide variety of skills.

Industry players said that the establishment of an institution of this kind bodes well for the country’s shortage of skilled manpower.

The Southern India Mills’ Association (SIMA) to organize four day international exhibition of textile machinery, accessories and spares, Texfair 2016. This fair is the tenth edition in its series will see participation from 220 exhibitors displaying their products and services, in 231 stalls.

Apart from leading textile machinery, spares and accessories manufacturers and suppliers from Tamil Nadu, display of products from States such as Gujarat, Delhi, Goa, Punjab and Maharashtra as well as international participants are expected at this fair, a SIMA release said.

Ethiopia fails to meet textile export target in past 9 months

In Ethiopian textile and apparel sector, presently there are 60 companies, out of which 32 are foreign companies are operating. In the past nine months the Ethiopia’s textile export earning has shown significant decline by generating only USD 65 million against the set target of USD110 million for the period.

Commenting on the issue Taddese Haile, State Minister for Industry, said that the slip was because of low performance, failure to expand market and business administrative issues of larger companies.

The Sri Lankan government to establish 150 mini garment factories in selected districts including Eastern and Uva Provinces, according to proposal made by Industry and Commerce Minister, Rishad Bathiudeen to empower the women in rural areas.

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the proposal to implement the program to establish 150 mini factories of cooperative/joint ventures model with trained women in 2016 as the first phase.

In the last one year, crores of meters of fabrics has been imported into the country, thereby paralyzing the domestic man-made fabric (MMF) sector. The Federation of Surat Textile Traders Association (FOSTTA) to rescue the MMF sector has strongly urged the ministry of textiles to propose anti-dumping duty on the fabrics imported from China and other countries into India.

MEG price dips in Asia, US

Mono ethylene glycol prices declined in Asian and US markets while they were flat in Europe in the first week of May.

Asian MEG markers declined US$18 a ton the CFR China and CFR South East Asia in the first week of May. In China, central offers dropped gradually during the week.

In Asia, MEG market weakened somewhat and downstream polyester makers resisted to replenish raw material, as there were signs of commodities and crude oil to retreat.

The most actively traded June MEG futures contract on the Huaxicun Commodity Exchange fell from Monday to Friday.

Paraxylene price tumbles across all regions

Asian paraxylene prices fell US$29.33 a ton FOB Korea and CFR Taiwan/China in the first week of May.

Paraxylene prices in Asian market tumbled weekend and on the week on sliding downstream PTA futures. Meanwhile Hanbang improved run rate of its new PTA line, which expanded supply amid weak demand. Isomer, mixed xylene prices also declined due to weak up and downstream sectors.
