Handicrafts exports to increase by 10% in FY 2017

With Increasing demand in new and traditional markets, handicrafts exports will soar by about 10 per cent to Rs 23,560 crore in 2016-17.

Rakesh Kumar, ED of Exports Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) said that demand in regions like the US, Europe, Latin America and Middle East is growing and it will help in recording a healthy growth figures in exports.

During the period from April - September 2016, the exports reported a growth of 18.25 per cent year-on-year to Rs 13,005.35 crore.

Agreement signed AMITH and Messe Frankfurt to promote Morocco textile industry

A partnership agreement has been signed between Karim Tazi, president of AMITH (the Moroccan Association for the Textile and Clothing Industries) and Michael Scherpe, President of Messe Frankfurt France to promote the Moroccan textile industry on an international scale.

The eighth largest supplier of clothing and textiles to the European Union in 2015 with exports worth EUR 2.54 thousand million, 2.3 billion of which was clothing, the clothing and textile industry is said to be a key sector for socio-economic equilibrium in Morocco.

LG Chem plans to invest US$253 million over the next three years to raise the ethylene production capacity of its naphtha cracking center by 230,000 tons.

The ethylene production capacity of LG Chem’s naphtha plant in Daesan of South Chungcheong Province will increase to 1.27 million tons, the largest production in the world as a single production facility.

LG Chem’s expanded Daesan plant, together with an additional naphtha cracking center based in Yeosu, will push up LG Chem’s net ethylene production capabilities to 2.43 million tons, the biggest in Korea.

Viscose yarn price inches up amid stable demand

In China, 30s spun viscose prices were rolled over in the first week of October while 40s compact sirospun yarn prices in Jiangsu were up US cents 2 a kg on the week.

Spun viscose yarn offers inched up in China amid unchanged demand and modest sales. Siro-spun yarn market was also stable and discussions and offers inched up with modest orders. Upstream VSF prices moderated slightly that week which may reflect in prices of some regular spec yarn next week.

Blended yarn price slips on weak demand in India

In Qianqing, PC (65/35) 32s yarn prices were stable in the first week of October while 45s PC combed yarn prices rolled over during the week. 32s PV (65/35) were steady on the week.

Blended yarn prices remained stable in China and Pakistan while they slid slightly in India on weak demand. In China, local fabric market picked up somewhat, thus yarn spinners ramped up the run rates as prices had also bottomed out ahead of the National Day holidays that week.

Polyester yarn price falls amid mute buying interest

In Shengze, offers for 32s and 45s polyester yarn fell in the last week of September. In Qiangqing, offers for 32s weaving fell US cents 3 a kg on the week.
Polyester yarn offers in China were stable to down amid limited transaction volume and mute enquiring atmosphere. Yarn producers bought small volume of raw material as they were cautious during the National holiday and after.

PTA price moves up amid plant shutdowns in Asia

Asian PTA markers moved up slightly US$2-3 a ton CFR China and CFR Southeast Asia in the last week of September. In China, offers for nearby-month goods were slightly lower, and counter offers fell US$5 a ton on the week.

Purified terephthalic acid price edged up slightly in Asian markets ahead of plant shutdowns. China's Yisheng Dahua Petrochemical plans to shut both its PTA plants at Dalian with 2.2 million ton a year capacity for two weeks from H1 October while South Korea’s Taekwang Petrochemical has shut 1-million-ton PTA plant for maintenance in Ulsan.

US cotton surplus estimate cut 12% on China demand

According to reports, by next year in 2017, cotton supplies in US will be smaller than previously forecast because of rising prices and larger-than-expected purchases in China, the world’s biggest buyer.

Inventories on July 31, 2017, will be 4.3 million bales, 12 percent less than projected last month and below the lowest estimate in a Bloomberg survey of analysts, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in the report released Wednesday.

The supply would be expected at 4.9 million bales, as per the average estimate, little changed from the USDA’s forecast in September.

Ube Industries plans to invest in nylon capacity in Spain

In order to meet the growing demand for high added value nylon, Ube Industries is planning to invest in additional nylon manufacturing capacity at its subsidiary UBE Corporation Europe S.A.U. in Castellon, Spain. The expansion will add 40,000 metric tons per year (m.t./yr) to make the total capacity 70,000 m.t./yr.

The plant is expected to start operation in the beginning of February 2018. The company is also building a new compounding facility in the same location, which will start operation in August 2017.

ASF prices firm despite rising upstream cost

In China, medium-length staple fiber and cotton-type staple prices were stable in the last week of September. Offers for Taiwan origin 3D bright ASF tow rolled over while regular specs were flat on the week.
