Paraxylene prices surge in Asia, US while decline in Europe

Asian paraxylene prices were up US$2 a ton CFR Taiwan/China and FOB Korea in the second week of October. Isomer mixed xylene last offer for November was down US$2 a ton FOB Korea.

Paraxylene prices in Asian markets inched up on the week after falling sharply Thursday across Asia and Europe. The weekly rise was due to firmer PTA and crude oil prices. Meanwhile, SKGC plans to restart its paraxylene plant in H2 October.

India's cotton exports in 2016-17 are likely to fall 28% from a year ago to 5 million bales as its top buyer Pakistan is set to halve purchases due to rising hostilities and improvement in its own production, industry and government officials said.

The lower shipments to Pakistan from the world's biggest cotton producer will help other suppliers such as Brazil, the United States and some African countries in raising exports.

Manufacturers urge FG to boost textile industry

The Nigerian Textile Manufacturers Association (NTMA) has urged the Federal Government to channel proceeds from Textile Development Levy to boost the competitiveness of the textile industry.

Mr Hamma Kwajaffa, Director-General of NTMA, said in Lagos that the accrual from the levy would bridge the infrastructure deficits that presently impeded the industry.

The Federal Government set aside 10 per cent import levy on imported fabrics to develop operations of local textile manufacturers.

The levy was to be collected on behalf of the government by the Nigerian Customs Service.

Cotton output to grow 4% in 2016-17

Cotton production in 2015-16 season stood at 338 lakh bales (of 170 kg each), Textile Commissioner Kavita Gupta told reporters here after the season's first meeting of the Cotton Advisory Board.
Cotton production is estimated to increase by 3.84 percent in the 2016-17 season (beginning from October 1) to 351 lakh bales compared to the previous year, a top Central Government official said.

Nylon yarn price declines on input cost pressure

In China, FDY70D/24F SD prices fell US cents 4 a kg in the second week of October while FDY40D fell US cents 9 a kg on the week. DTY 70D/24F prices moderated US cents 4 a kg while 30D/10F were stable on the week. Monofilament 30D prices were flat while nylon staple fiber 1.5D prices were range bound during the week.

Caprolactum price dips amid modest demand

Asian caprolactum markers, the SE and FE were flat in the second week of October while Japanese goods were stable on the week. East European goods were firm during the week.

In China, spot offers spot inched down US$15 a ton while low‐end solid good offers were down US$70 a ton on the week.

Caprolactum values dipped amid modest demand despite slight uptrend in raw material benzene cost. In China, offers for liquid goods inched down while low‐end solid goods were cheaper.

Blended yarn market remains range bound in Asia

In Qianqing, PC (65/35) 32s yarn prices were up US cents 3 a kg in the second week of October while 45s PC combed yarn prices rolled over on the week. 32s PV (65/35) were steady during the week.

Blended yarn prices in China, particularly regular count of 32s PC, were up while others were steady at firm levels. Competition from foreign imported limited increase in yarn prices, which are at the same level or slightly higher than import in Yuan terms.

Viscose yarn price declines in China, up in Pakistan

In China, 30s spun viscose yarn prices fell US cents 2 a kg in Xiaoshan in the second week of October while 40s compact sirospun yarn prices in Jiangsu were down US cents 3 a kg on the week.

Ring-spun viscose yarn prices dropped in China as cost obviously eased over the past couple of week, with VSF prices now in the range of US$2.45-2.55 a kg while viscose yarn over US$3 per kg. Offers for Xiaoshan-origin 30s yarn dropped as buyers talked prices down.

In India, viscose yarn prices rolled over on firmer and steady VSF values, although demand was hard to pick up.
