Surat the largest man-made fabric (MMF) of the country and a big wholesale market for saris and dress material with the daily supply to the tune of over Rs30 crore of which four crore meters of fabric production in the city, around 25 percent goes to South India markets including Chennai, Andhra Pradesh and Telengana are hit hard following the indefinite strike called by truck owners in South India.

The strike is called to protest mainly the proposed 50% hike in the third party insurance premium.

In China, ACN spot prices held stable as higher monthly settlements from Sinopec supported market confidence, given softening propylene and acrylic fiber market entering seasonal lull and market outlook less encouraging.

Mono ethylene glycol prices plummeted on the week due to weak downstream demand, while domestic prices in China also followed suit. In China, domestic market was weak with prices under downward correction. Trading sentiment was moderate amid weak buying interest.

Asian paraxylene prices fell US$29.33 a ton CFR Taiwan/China and FOB Korea in the fourth week of March. Isomer-grade mixed xylene was cheaper by US$9.50 a ton FOB Korea on the week.

Paraxylene prices fell back again that week after some recovery last week as sentiment continued to weaken across regions. Orthoxylene inventories at China's ports was piling while a S Korean producer halted spot offering as demand waned throughout Asia amid ample supply.
