Abul Mansur Md Faizullah, chairman of Petrobangla, the state-owned gas and power supplying authority, said the government has imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) to meet the demand in the industrial sector. The government has also removed 122 percent tax on import of LNG, putting only 15 percent VAT in place for this imported gas, he said. He said the government has started giving gas connections to the industrial units. Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, energy adviser to the prime minister, said the government would launch a crackdown on Titas to cut corruption.

In China, nylon FDY70D/24F SD prices fell US cents 2 a kg in the second week of April while FDY40D was down US cents 2 a kg as compared to last week. Nylon DTY prices were stable and 30D/10F were also unchanged on the week.

Monofilament 30D prices were steady while nylon staple fiber 1.5D prices rolled over during the week.

The SE and FE Asian caprolactum markers on the lower end was down US$40 a ton in the second week of April. In China, spot liquid good offers fell US$57 a ton on the week while solid goods were up US$7 a ton on the week. European goods also plunged US$40 a ton on the week.

Caprolactum prices in Asia were on downtrend that week despite strong upstream market. In China, CPL offers slipped amid and diminishing demand which resulted in to lack of confidence during the week. Plant run rates were at 77%, fell from last week.

R. Senthil, co-ordinator of the waste cotton traders's association, said raw cotton attracts 1 % cess in the State and waste cotton also attracts 1 % market cess.After the implementation of GST most of the States that were collecting the cess have removed the tax levied on cotton or waste cotton.Tamil Nadu contintues to collect it.

Under GST, cotton attracts 5 % duty. Hence, there is no need for another cess, he said. About 10,000 traders handle up to eight lakh kg of waste cotton a month in the State.

So far, licences for supply equal to 1.25 crore bags have been granted, with that of another 50 crore in the process, said a source in agriculture department.On the other hand, the seed companies appear to be bullish on demand for Bt seeds for the coming season. According to estimates made on basis of licences granted by the agriculture department, 1.75 crore bags of Bt seeds may be pumped in the market by seed makers. This is 10 lakh bags more than the supply available in the state last year.
