Zeefier develops seaweed-based textile dyes

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2026-05-11 13:36:41 – Netherlands

Zeefier, based in the Netherlands, is developing textile dyes made from seaweed as a more sustainable alternative to conventional synthetic dyes. By replacing petroleum-based chemicals with renewable marine resources, the company aims to create dyes that allow textiles to remain fully biodegradable. With support from the BlueInvest initiative of the European Union, Zeefier is expanding its solution for dye houses around the world.

A major part of Zeefier’s innovation lies in its ability to work with existing industrial systems. The company has designed its dyes as a plug-and-play solution that meets current dye-house standards and can be integrated into existing textile production processes worldwide.

This compatibility reduces the challenges often associated with adopting new technologies in the textile industry, where manufacturers are generally cautious about changing established production methods. While Zeefier’s dyes are currently used mainly in premium textile products, the technology is also suitable for mainstream textile applications.
