Yoox Net-a-Porter joins Prince of Wales' sustainable markets initiative

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2021-05-25 08:25:52 – United Kingdom

Yoox Net-a-Porter Group, an online luxury and lifestyle retailer, has become the first luxury fashion retailer to join the Prince of Wales' Terra Carta for sustainable change which launched earlier this year.

Via its recently published sustainability strategy 2030, 'Infinity', the Group's commitment to Terra Carta supports its efforts to drive a prosperous and circular fashion industry. Terra Carta, launched in January 2021, is a call-to-action charter for companies that put nature, people and the planet at the centre of global value development.

Yoox Net-a-Porter has joined an influential group of global companies as supporters of a joint pledge to partner and trade expertise across markets, using the private sector's creative capacity and creativity to drive the world's transformation to a more responsible future.

Yoox Net-a-Porter, as a member of the Terra Carta, will support the action articles and goals stated in the charter's ten values via the commitments published in Infinity.

Infinity blends a bold vision and 12 measurable commitments for 2030, all of which are linked to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. Its goal is to create a future in which beloved products are built to last, in which shoppers have the opportunities and knowledge they need to make informed choices and prolong the lives of their clothes, in which the next generation is prepared for a sustainable future, and in which luxury and fashion can help restore the planet's equilibrium.

Launching a Digital ID technology pilot project for the group's private labels in collaboration with Eon; introducing circular standards to the private label collections to ensure they are entirely planned for sustainability and circularity by 2025, and advancing emissions mitigation programmes with a goal to achieve 100% renewable energy across all owned operations, as one part of the journey to becoming climate positive by 2030 are only a few of the projects currently underway to advance Infinity since its release in November 2020.

The Prince's foundation and Yoox Net-a-Porter had also partnered on The Modern Artisan, a unique initiative that aimed to give trainee artisans the skills and confidence they required to create luxury clothing collections that were sustainable and completed to the highest standards.

Federico Marchetti, founder and chairman of Yoox Net-a-Porter Group, said he started a journey in early 2000 to harness creativity to drive a more sustainable and values-driven strategy for the fashion industry, which culminated last year with the launch of The Modern Artisan, a long-term initiative he has been proud to build with His Royal Highness. HRH's contribution to championing sustainability has always been ahead of its time, but now the clock is ticking, and I'm afraid we're running out of time. HRH's contribution to championing sustainability has already been ahead of the curve, but now is the time for more of the apparel community to join them.
