A workshop titled ‘Solar PV & LED Lighting’ was held on Wednesday under the Partnership for Cleaner Textile (PaCT) programme of World Bank Group’s International Finance Corporation (IFC) organized by the Textile Technology Business Centre (TTBC) to promote energy efficient technology in the country’s garment sector.
The workshop showcased the opportunities for Solar PV plus LED Lighting in the textile and garment sector.
Organizer of the workshop in a press release said that it discussed developing Solar PV and LED Lighting as ‘Green Lighting Options’. For Bangladesh to reach the strategic target of $50 billion in RMG export by 2021, the industry must utilize energy efficient technologies like Solar PV and LED Lighting.
With the rising cost of energy, the growth trajectory of Bangladesh textile industry can only be sustained by investing in smart technologies like Solar PV and LED Lighting in factories and nearby communities, IFC Bangladesh Country Manager Wendy Werner told the workshop.
IFC Bangladesh is committed to the development goals of the industry and will extend support through capacity and business development.
At the event, IDLC Finance Ltd, a PaCT partner, signed the formal engagement letter with IFC to promote financial products that will facilitate greater adoption of resource efficiency technology across the textile sector.
BGMEA President Md Siddiqur Rahman and Senior Vice President Faruque Hassan were present and spoke at the workshop among others.
The main objectives of the workshop were to bring together key decision makers from the textile and garment sectors, technology suppliers, and financial institutions to exhibit energy efficiency products and services and to highlight savings in energy consumption, green financing to engage business-to-business interactions among key stakeholders in the textile sector.
