Woolmark, COLOURizd to advance sustainable wool dyeing

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2025-06-19 16:04:55 – Australia

Woolmark, the Australian wool certification and innovation organisation, has teamed up with sustainable textile colouration company COLOURizd to introduce a new eco-friendly method for dyeing wool and wool blends. The new technology, named QuantumCOLOUR, offers a modern approach to colouring textiles while promoting sustainability in the dyeing process.

This advanced technique uses only 0.5 litres of water per kilogram of yarn and eliminates the need for traditional dyeing steps like pre-treatment, bleaching, and water discharge. QuantumCOLOUR relies solely on a pigment binder system and a wetting agent, significantly reducing water and chemical usage in the colouring process.

In addition to 100% Merino wool, the new colouring method has been successfully tested on various blends, including cotton, nylon, and TENCEL. Independent lab testing confirmed that the process delivers consistent colour results and long-lasting wear.

Julie Davies, Woolmark’s General Manager of Processing Innovation and Education Extension, expressed confidence in the new process after extensive testing. She praised the COLOURizd™ team for their groundbreaking innovation and noted that QuantumCOLOUR™ not only produces vibrant, rich tones but also reduces the need for complex wastewater treatment systems.

Jennifer Thompson, CEO of COLOURizdâ„¢, said the collaboration with Woolmark and clients such as Kontoor Brands (Wrangler and Lee), GANT, and Cone Denim will help open new opportunities for this innovative dyeing method in the textile industry.
