West Elm and Eileen Fisher enter home decor market through up-cycling

A global design company West Elm and Eileen Fisher have launched a sustainably made home decor and furniture collection, designed by upcycling Eileen Fisher materials, this gives the textiles an extended life beyond the closet. The two retailers share a vision to develop responsible designs using scrutinised manufacturing focused around zero-waste systems to create home products that have less impact over the environment. This partnership marks Eileen Fisher’s industry changing denim felting method to an exclusive collection with major home retailers.

Eileen Fisher, Founder and co-CEO stated that their team was delighted to partner with West Elm due to their shared passion for creating responsibly-designed products, with the new designs they are extending each garment’s life cycle and drastically reducing waste that they put into the world. They hope to see other brands join this mission and increase the potential to create positive changes in manufacturing.

The West Elm + Eileen Fisher collection is exquisitely crafted utilising a process that begins by deconstruction of previously owned denim garments donated by as a part of Eileen Fisher’s Renew program. The upcycled textiles are washed, repaired and hand layers into intricate designed patterns which makes each piece a one of a kind in the collection. This gives the product a value of authenticity.

Alex Bellos, president of West Elm stated that Ellen Fisher has led the apparel industry with respect to sustainable innovation and has developed a transformative technology that facilitates them to introduce circular design to a collection of textiles for the home decor industry.
