Walmart joins U.S. Cotton Trust Protocol to strengthen sourcing efforts

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2026-04-17 14:05:38 – USA

The U.S. Cotton Trust Protocol has announced that Walmart has joined its program. This step is seen as an important development for the retail sector, as it expands the impact of sustainable cotton sourcing and supports Walmart’s focus on regeneration and transparency within its supply chain.

As part of the Trust Protocol, Walmart will gain access to verified and combined data on sustainable practices followed by U.S. cotton farmers. It will also be able to track the movement of U.S. cotton and Protocol Cotton across its supply chain. This supports Walmart’s goal of sourcing more sustainable cotton and its larger commitment to help manage, protect, or restore at least 50 million acres of land and 1 million square miles of ocean by 2030.

By offering clear data and full visibility across the supply chain, the Trust Protocol helps companies like Walmart ensure they are sourcing cotton in a more responsible way. Other members of the program include Amazon, Macy's, Levi Strauss & Co., and URBN.

“We are pleased to welcome Walmart to the Trust Protocol,” said Gary Adams. He noted that Walmart’s participation will help expand the reach of sustainable cotton sourcing and strengthen efforts to improve transparency and progress across the supply chain.
