Vietnam-ASEAN Silk Festival begins in Hoi An silk village

The Hoi An Silk village in Quang Nam is justifiably famous as a hub for silk making and trading in the region. To celebrate this fact, the village hosted a Vietnam-ASEAN Silk Festival, the first of its kind event.

The Vietnam-ASEAN Silk Festival was opened this morning, 28 December at the Hoi An Silk Village in the central province of Quang Nam. The festival attracted 32 artisans from seven silk villages throughout the country including Van Phuc, Phung Xa, Ma Chau, Tan Chau, Cham My Nghiep…

The organization board said that the festival is aimed to exchange and introduce Vietnamese silk products to other ASEAN member countries. This is also chance to honor Vietnamese artisans and seek cooperation in the region to develop Vietnam high quality silk products.

Artisans performed the different stages in producing a silk product such as sericulture (silk farming), silk weaving, handicrafts and the unique silk cultures and traditions of the region.

An exhibition displaying 500 outstanding silk products of seven Vietnamese silk villages and other silk products in ASEAN countries namely Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Japan was also launched at the opening ceremony.

In addition, a number of silk fashion shows will also take to the stage spotlighting silk Ao Dia (Vietnamese traditional dress), music programs and cuisines will be held during festival to lure visitors.
