Vans, Ernest Packaging create skateable cardboard sneaker

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2025-08-07 17:03:46 – USA

Footwear and apparel brand Vans has teamed up with Ernest Packaging Solutions to create the world’s first skateable sneaker made entirely from cardboard. This unique creation is part of Ernest’s “Cardboard Chaos” series and celebrates Vans’ deep connection to skateboarding culture, creativity, and self-expression.

Ernest Packaging crafted a strong and flexible version of Vans’ signature checkerboard upper using their proprietary cardboard technology. The sneakers were rigorously tested by Alva, Van Doren, and skate icon Christian Hosoi. The cardboard design was pushed to the limit, withstanding high heat of up to 275°F and pressure of 20 PSI during production.

Tim Wilson, President of Ernest Packaging, shared his excitement about the project, saying, “Working with Steve was truly special for me. As a California native, I understand how legendary Vans shoes are. Building one together was an incredible experience.”

This cardboard sneaker adds to an impressive lineup of Ernest Packaging’s Cardboard Chaos projects, which began in 2014. Previous innovations include cardboard versions of a snowboard, skateboard (used by Tony Hawk), surfboard, and wakeboard.

David Lee, host of the Cardboard Series by Signal Productions and Liquid Agency, summed it up by saying, “We brought everything together, custom cardboard Vans, Steve Van Doren, pro skaters, and so many amazing people. Honestly, there are just no words. It’s beyond cool.”
