Ugg launches shoe refurbishment program 'UGGrenew'

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2021-11-09 07:46:02 – USA

UGG, a global lifestyle brand owned by Deckers Brands, has announced the launch of a UGGrenew, a refurbishment program as well as demonstrable progress toward its goal of doing good for the environment.

As part of the 'UGGrenew' service, UGG has teamed with NuShoe, a premium shoe repair company, to offer three levels of personalized care: Renew, Restore and Refresh.

Under Renew, NuShoe upgrades the pair of Classic Boots with new bindings and a fresh Treadlite by UGG outsole after a comprehensive handcrafted restoration. Additionally, the service uses naturally derived detergents to meticulously steam clean the shoe inside and out, helping to lift stains, remove odors, and condition the leather.

Under Restore, carefully steam cleans the shoe inside and out using organically derived detergents, assisting in the removal of stains, odor removal, and conditioning of the leather. The previous sole is also replaced with a brand-new UGG Treadlite outsole.

And under Refresh, carefully steam cleans the shoe inside and out using naturally derived detergents, assisting in the removal of stains, odour removal, and conditioning of the leather.

NuShoe's capacity is currently restricted to 100 pairs per day due to the handcrafted nature of the service, but they want to scale the program to enable service of over a quarter million pairs per year by 2023.

Deckers Brands also announced that the company had submitted science-based targets to the Science-Based Targets Initiative, which had been approved. Deckers Brands collaborated with The Carbon Trust to develop a Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions baseline (FY19) and set ambitious greenhouse gas reduction goals.

The UGG brand will use recycled, repurposed, regenerated (plant-based), renewable (bio-based), and certified/preferred natural fibers by 35%. By 2027, UGG plans to replace all faux fur in its footwear with plant-based faux fur, bio-based faux fur, or recycled synthetic fibers in all material categories.

Dave Powers, President & CEO of Deckers Brands, said that over the last year, UGG has made significant progress in defining essential pillars in order to establish a brand that has a positive influence through measurable results. They will continue to prioritize people, the environment, and their products in their decision-making. UGG is dedicated to becoming a more regenerative brand, one that values long-term value over short-term profit by restoring the health of people, communities, and the planet.
