Twaron, with circular content, to power solar car

Teijin Aramid’s newly developed Twaron with circular content will support one of the world’s most advanced solar-powered vehicles in the 2025 Bridgestone World Solar Challenge. The Brunel Solar Team from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands will be competing in 2025 with their latest solar car model, the Nuna 13.

The vehicle’s tyres will include Bridgestone’s Enliten technology, which blends various recycled materials, including a tyre belt reinforced with the circular version of Twaron aramid. This technology offers low rolling resistance, high durability, and puncture resistance, making it ideal for the demanding journey across desert terrain.

The circular Twaron maintains the same strength, heat resistance, and lightweight properties as standard Twaron, but with the added advantage of promoting a more sustainable production cycle. Inside the vehicle, a flame-resistant shield made of Twaron fabric also protects the driver, offering enhanced safety through its strength and low weight.

“Every material in our car is chosen with purpose,” said Daan van den Dries, chief engineer of the Brunel Solar Team. “Twaron provides the protection, strength, and lightweight quality we need to perform well, while also helping us reduce our environmental footprint.”
