TS team takes a look at the textile industry and market system prevalent in Surat

Telangana team are in Surat to study textile industry there so that the system could be adopted in the textile park being planned to set up in Warangal. A five member delegation led by Warangal MP Kadiam Srihari visited an integrated textile park which has 15 units engaged in high-end production in weaving, yarn processing, texturing and technical textile at Surat in Gujarat on Saturday as part of its exercise to study the textile industry there. They also visited the textile units run by entrepreneurs hailing from Telanagana.

They also studied the wholesale market system prevalent in Surat and learnt about policies and the support mechanism provided to the textile industry the Government of Gujarat.

After the study, the team felt that there was huge potential to the proposed textile park at Warangal. The large output of high quality cotton in the region along with availability of ginning units would provide a strong base for taking up value addition and processing activities.

Several entrepreneurs and textile workers from Telangana settled in Surat have expressed desire to return to the home State and participate in the Warangal textile park.

It is estimated that there are over 3 lakh persons of Telangana origin in Gujarat, of which 2 lakh are in Surat alone and working in

the textile sector. A majority of the migrants are from Warangal district, followed by Karimnagar and Nalgonda.

The first batch of migrants moved to Surat in the early 70s and started as loom workers. Over 150 of them own looms ranging from 50 to 350 there.

The delegation will be submitting a report along with its recommendations to the Chief Minister for finalising the plans for the Warangal textile park.

The delegation led by Warangal MP Kadiam Srihari and comprising Parkal MLA Ch. Dharma Reddy, Wardhannapet MLA A. Ramesh, Advisor to State Government on Industries B.V. Papa Rao and Commissioner of Industries Jayesh Ranjan.
