Japanese materials manufacturer Toray Industries has developed a polyester-nylon composite fibre containing at least 93% recycled material by weight, addressing technical challenges associated with combining recycled polymers in high-performance textile yarns.
The development will support Artirosa CX, a new fabric collection targeting premium outerwear, urban outdoor clothing and casual apparel, with commercial introduction planned for Autumn/Winter 2027. Both the polyester and nylon components incorporate recycled raw materials, building on technologies developed through Toray’s &+ recycled fibre programme.
The Artirosa CX collection combines the composite yarn with fabric development, weaving, knitting, dyeing and finishing expertise from Japan’s textile manufacturing regions. The resulting fabrics feature dense, finely textured surfaces and a crisp handle, with finishing options designed to provide properties such as waterproofing, durable water repellency and wind resistance.
Toray also states that the fabrics can achieve water repellency using finishing agents formulated without intentionally added per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). The collection is intended for applications where texture, appearance and drape are as important as technical performance, particularly in premium outerwear.
