Teijin Frontier has developed an innovative polyester fiber technology that enables the production of a new textile offering two performance characteristics, high heat retention and excellent breathability.
The new textile is produced by precisely splitting a double Raschel knitted fabric structure. The fabric combines low-crimp filaments in the ground layer with bulky, highly crimped textured fibres positioned within the intermediate knot sections. This construction creates a uniform and lofty fabric structure that traps air effectively while maintaining a lightweight feel.
The resulting raised-fibre surface forms a granular texture that enhances insulation through the dead-air effect, where trapped air acts as a thermal barrier to retain body heat. This structure provides warmth without significantly increasing fabric weight.
The textile achieves high breathability through a specially engineered knit design that creates larger stitch formations and spaces between yarns. The fabric further enhances wearer comfort through efficient moisture management. The bulky textured yarns make only minimal contact with the skin, helping to wick sweat away from the body. Another key benefit of the textile is its ability to maintain its structure and performance over time.
The textile can be manufactured using either recycled or conventional polyester. In addition, its non-brushed filament-based construction minimizes fibre shedding during laundering, helping to reduce the release of microplastics into waterways..
