Teijin Frontier develops diversified polyester material

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2024-05-23 17:16:09 – Japan

Teijin Frontier Co., Ltd., the fibers and products converting arm of the Teijin Group, has unveiled a new polyester material that boasts high breathability and UV protection. Inspired by traditional Japanese "Sudare" blinds, this innovative fabric allows air to pass through while blocking sunlight.

In response to rising summer temperatures, Teijin Frontier designed this polyester to provide enhanced heat protection. The material addresses the need for breathability, UV resistance, and anti-stickiness, which were previously considered incompatible. The new fabric features slit-shaped, highly breathable areas in the warp or weft direction, mimicking the gaps in bamboo blinds. This structure enables the material to offer both excellent breathability and high UV blocking performance of over 85 percent.

Sustainability is also a key feature, as the material incorporates recycled polyester. Its structure and elastic fibers ensure stretch performance, while an uneven surface created by thread shrinkage and the fabric's design prevent stickiness. Teijin Frontier utilized special high-shrinkage and dyeing finishing technologies to achieve this combination of functions, making the material suitable for fashion and casual clothing.
