YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2021-03-16 12:07:47 – Taiwan

Taipei Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2021 announced the launch of Taipei Sustainable Collections which took place in Songshan Cultural and Creative Park on March 11th. This is a first-of-its-kind show in Asia that is centered around sustainability.

The events highlighted the most exciting innovations that are coming to the fore in Taiwan which include eco-friendly practices and era-defining sustainable textiles along with fabric development.

A lot of designers whose designs are centered around sustainability were present in the event to showcase their most recent creations including DYCTEAM, JUST IN XX, DNA—#DAMUR, Claudia Wang, oqLiq, and WEAVISM. These 6 brand designs were encouraged as they circled around sustainability by experimenting with new concepts and techniques for Autumn Winter ’21.

Taiwan’s latest metallic membrane and lamination technology was utilized by #DAMUR while in order to minimize waste, Claudia Wang once again leaned on 3D virtual technology. The signature eco-friendly designs of Wang were also created using biodegradable and recycled fabrics.

Recycled materials such as eco-friendly processed natural cotton, down alternatives, reusable three-layered nylon, and biodegradable insulation layers were featured in the DYCTEAM collection. JUST IN XX utilized recycled fabrics transformed from industrial waste, post-consumer plastic bottles, and non-toxic remade fabrics to showcase Taiwanese craftsmanship through crocheting and laser-cutting fabric scraps for his Taiwan Olympic uniform.

oqLiq showcased the designs created from new fabric technologies and design applications which included leather made by dam sediment and multifunctional materials made from oyster shell powder mixed with plastic pellets created from recycled PET bottles. In addition to this WEAVISM has woven functional fabrics out of unconventional natural materials such as banana leaves and beeswax, where clothes can merge with the earth after being buried in the soil.

The Taipei Fashion Week was sponsored by the Taiwan government focused on an increasing dedication to protect the environment and change the fashion industry by combining innovative manufacturing power with emerging designers' visions.

Taipei Sustainable Collections is a platform for young designers who cares for the environment along with a humanity-first approach to design for discovering the intersection of style, innovation, and social responsibility.
