Stratasys, a 3D printing company, has unveiled a new direct-to-garment printing solution to revolutionize consumer clothing. The addition to their TechStyle printer, the J580, now enables colorful, 3D-printed designs to be applied onto existing garments. Stratasys aims to attract consumers seeking personalized experiences and unique style.

Presented at Texprocess in Germany, Stratasys showcased its Urban Tattoo denim collection earlier this month. This collection aims to create a stronger emotional connection with clothing, similar to how people feel about tattoos on their bodies. Renowned designers like Karim Rashid, Travis Fitch, and Zlatko Yanakiev collaborated on this collection, which is designed to appeal to a wide range of consumers.

Zehavit Reisin, senior vice president of commercial solutions at Stratasys, highlighted the customization potential offered by the technology. Brands can now add meaningful personalization to denim clothing, catering to diverse consumer preferences while promoting sustainable business practices.

Stratasys will offer direct-to-garment printing trays in two sizes to minimize waste and accommodate various garments and sizes. The technology is compatible with denim, cotton, polyester, and linen, offering versatile applications for upcycling garments.

This innovative technology has the potential to transform the way brands and consumers approach garment design and reuse. By repurposing items before they reach the end of their lifecycle, consumers may be encouraged to purchase fewer new garments, reducing textile waste.
