Stora Enso, in collaboration with Krekelberg Flock Products and Flocktechniek, C&B Innovations, has developed Papira, a plastic-free packaging foam made from cellulose-based flock fibers. The material offers a wide range of design options, including different colours, gloss levels, patterns, and surface textures.
Papira is a lightweight foam that is biodegradable and can be recycled through standard paperboard recycling systems. It is produced using wood-based cellulosic fibers supplied by Krekelberg and applied using specialised technology from Flocktechniek, C&B Innovations.
According to Stora Enso, Papira is manufactured using water-based adhesives, Oeko-Tex certified pigments, and FSC-certified fibres. These choices reflect Krekelberg’s focus on environmentally responsible materials and production methods.
Flocktechniek, C&B Innovations contributes its industrial flocking expertise to the project. The company applies the surface layer of Papira using electrostatic fiber technology, which helps achieve a strong, durable, and high-quality finish.
