Steiger showcases smart glove technology

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2026-05-14 14:00:37 – Germany

Steiger presented a range of advanced textile innovations at Techtextil, including a fully integrated smart glove designed to combine textile engineering with embedded technology.

The smart glove was produced using the company’s new VEGA 3.9 knitting machine. It combines advanced 3D knitting technology, conductive yarns, and built-in sensors to allow smooth interaction between textiles and electronic systems. The integration of RFID chips also expands the glove’s possible uses in identification and tracking applications.

The glove has been developed using silicon yarns to improve ergonomics, offering both comfort and functional performance. All electronic parts are built directly inside the knitted structure, helping maintain flexibility while also protecting the technology within the fabric.

Steiger also introduced a knee support brace featuring a newly developed electronic fibre containing liquid metal technology for stretchable detection. The fibre was developed by EPFL and can accurately monitor knee bending angles while also helping reconstruct the wearer’s walking pattern. The product was manufactured using the Vega 3.90 M knitting machine.
