Spiber
Japanese biotechnology startup Spiber has joined hands with Italian textile manufacturer Botto Giuseppe to introduce a 100% Brewed Protein yarn. This partnership follows the successful development of this unique bio-based fiber, marking a significant step forward in sustainable textile innovation.
Since the start of their collaboration in 2023, Spiber and Botto Giuseppe have been working to explore the full potential of Brewed Protein fiber. Their joint efforts have led to the creation of yarn blends containing 20-50% Brewed Protein fiber mixed with cashmere, along with a fully developed 100% Brewed Protein worsted yarn.
“We are excited to begin this partnership and introduce such an advanced fiber,” said Silvio Botto Poala, CEO of Botto Giuseppe. “This is a milestone in our commitment to sustainability.”
Botto Giuseppe has become the first textile mill in Europe to successfully develop and market a yarn made entirely from Brewed Protein fiber. This innovative yarn is now available for purchase, offering the industry a sustainable and biodegradable option for premium textiles.
