Sorona and Tearfil join hands to produce high-performing staple yarns

The Portuguese spinning mill, Tearfil and DuPont™ Sorona® have entered into a partnership to develop sustainable and high-performing staple yarns for the apparel industry. Tearfil is dedicated to creating smarter, cleaner and more sustainable yarns and they chose Sorona® as their solution for the spinning mill.

Maria de Belém Machado, the CEO at Tearfil, stated that they believe that collaboration is the key ingredient to creating the best products. Machado added that through this partnership with Sorona team, they have proved how future-oriented high-performance textiles can also be eco-friendly and eco-conscious.

Sorona comprises of 37% renewable plant-based ingredients. The new eco-friendly fibre has been chosen by many renowned brands, such as The North Face, Helly Hansen and Stella McCartney.  Sorona® features many performance attributes, including softness, stretch, shape recovery, flexibility, ease-of-care and stain-resistance without the need for external treatments. 

Sorona has been utilised in activewear and denim wear. The Sorona fibre turns a formerly chemically-based process into a biological one, by utilising 30% less energy and releasing 63% lesser greenhouse gas emissions than Nylon 6. Sorona is also a member of the Textile Exchange, The Sustainable Apparel Coalition and the Ellen McArthur Foundation. Sorona’s bio-based product has also received OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 Certification.
