Sontara EcoRE bags, now included in Magnera’s product range, have been honoured with the IDEA Long-Life Achievement Award at the IDEA 25 nonwovens trade show held in Miami. Crafted from cellulosic fibres, Sontara EcoRE is certified as home-compostable and is known for its impressive strength and lasting durability.
Sontara EcoRE is a pioneering nonwoven material that serves as a budget-friendly alternative to woven fabrics. Using select raw materials and Sontara’s unique technology, it delivers strong, multidirectional durability without relying on binders. As a result, it performs similarly to woven textiles and is ideal for applications requiring durability, such as shopping bags.
Seth Good, Sontara’s product line management director, stated that with increasing plastic bag bans around the world, EcoRE offers a timely and eco-friendly alternative for the retail and shopping sectors. He noted that this is just one of the many ways the material can help address customer needs through its strength and sustainability.
He further added that EcoRE’s blend of eco-friendliness and practical use reflects how Magnera and Sontara remain at the forefront of material innovation. Their team is constantly exploring new ways to use Sontara’s capabilities to develop solutions tailored to end-user needs.
