SMOI organized Silk Mark Expo 2014 begins from today at Sree Mulam Club

Silk Mark Organisation India (SMOI) is an initiative formed by Central Silk Board (CSB) and Ministry of Textile to empower the silk lovers with the ability to identify the purity of silk is conducting a Silk Mark Expo – 2014.

The objective behind Silk Mark Expo is to provide a platform to the Authorised Users (AUs) to showcase and sell an array of intricate silk designs produced by the silk manufacturers and traders.

The expo will have products with a Silk Mark tag that guarantees 100% purity of the silk. Silk apparels such as saris, readymade dresses, carpets, curtains and cushions will be available here.

Admission to the Expo is given to only those manufactures/traders with a clean track record. This is with a view to maintain the reputation and credibility of the Silk Mark Expo. Care is also taken to avoid too many representations form one region with the same product design. Exhibitors are selected in such a way as to provide an equitable distribution of all product range, silk producing regions, and traditional weaving heritages.

SMOI organises Silk Mark Expos across the country roping in all the potential Silk weavers. This year they will be conducting 18 such expos in major cities of the country.

According to SMOI, this is the right time to conduct a silk exhibition as Kerala is all set to welcome Onam with brand new clothes and festivities. Buying silk has always been a tradition for South Indians, however, not many could identify the original silk from the fake ones. SMOI is in a sole resolve to make a difference by creating a larger market space for silk and by doing that they are also giving a better life to the sericulturists from the rural areas.

SMOI has competent textile technologists, who are well experienced in Silk industry and trade. SMOI is headquartered in Bangalore and has thirteen Silk Mark Chapters located strategically in and around silk clusters of the country with the technical experts in all its 13 chapters working across the country. The organisation which was officially launched in 2004 June, is brought to Kerala in 2008.

The exhibition will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister Oommen Chandy at 5 pm today, Friday 1st August. Central Silk Board Secretary Ishitha Roy, Kerala Financial Corporation Chairman P Joy Oommen and Silk Mark Chief Executive officer K S Menon will attend the elaborate function arranged by the organizers at Sree Mulam Club, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala that will go on from 1st to 5th August.
