Industrial houses in Pandesara are under contractual obligation with Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) to buy water from the civic body. However, promoters of eight textile dyeing mills were found to be buying water from other sources by setting up different pipelines.

These industries were penalized Rs 5.67 lakh each by SMC after they were found to be violating the terms of water purchase contract they had signed with the civic body.

These industries are identified as Manish Dyeing, Shreeji Prints, Global Dyeing, Oriental Dyeing, Prerna Dyeing, Ambaji Dyeing, Avishkar Dyeing and Ujala Dyeing mills.

Industries have accepted SMC's order with reluctance but termed it as asymmetrical.

Earlier, Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) has slapped closure notices on eight textile dyeing and printing units in Pandesara, Sachin, Kim and Palsana for violating air and water pollution norms.
