Sheep Inc., known for its innovation in natural fibres and carbon-negative design, has unveiled its latest product, the Merino Swimshorts. These groundbreaking swimshorts are made entirely from Reda Active 100% ZQ-certified Merino wool, paired with a biodegradable Yarnaway lining that leaves no waste or microplastics behind.
After two years of research and development, the brand has introduced what it describes as the world’s first swimshorts crafted completely from traceable, natural materials. Designed to perform and return safely to the environment, the swimshorts are made using ZQ-certified Merino wool, sourced from regenerative and ethical farms in New Zealand. This natural fibre is known for its ability to resist odours, regulate temperature, dry quickly, and provide freedom of movement, making it suitable for swimming, lounging, or casual wear.
The interior of the swimshorts features a biodegradable Yarnaway lining, specially created to break down in soil and marine environments. Unlike traditional synthetic linings, this one leaves no microplastic pollution and offers comfort without compromising the environment.
At the heart of Sheep Inc.'s approach is a simple but powerful principle, to design with natural materials and a focus on the future. These swimshorts reflect that commitment, with no shortcuts taken in sourcing or production. Each pair is fully traceable, thanks to an integrated Connected Dot that allows users to track the complete journey of their product, from the farm to the final garment.
“This product represents a complete rethink of what swimwear can be,” said Edzard van der Wyck, co-founder of Sheep Inc. “We wanted to show that high-performance swimwear doesn’t have to rely on plastic. By working with the best natural fibres and experienced makers, we’ve created something that looks great, performs well, and respects the planet.”
