Sensil ByNature, Maglificio partner to develop sustainable fashion

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2023-06-23 17:43:03 – Italy

With Sensil ByNature, the premium nylon 6.6 fiber produced by Nilit, leading Italian jersey knitter Maglificio Ripa, a pioneer in beachwear and sportswear since 1952, has developed a new collection of jersey fabrics.

Previewed at Interfiliere Paris (July 2-4, 2023), Maredimoda Miami (July 9-11, 2023), and MarediModa Cannes (November 7-9, 2023), the collection will be part of the Earth line for summer 2025.

“Fabrics that push the limits of sustainability in textiles, reduce dependence on fossil fuels and carbon footprint, and promote the use of renewable raw materials;” a Maglificio Ripa spokesperson said. “A revolutionary project that takes the concept of sustainability to the next level. Using a certified Biomass Balance (BMB) process, which BASF pioneered, this technology replaces partial fossil feedstock with renewable feedstock.”

The company adds that this technology significantly reduces a garment product's carbon footprint and moves the apparel industry closer to a more sustainable position.

This method uses renewable resources, like waste-derived biogas, as raw materials in the very early stages of the production process, as opposed to conventional nylon yarn that is made from fossil fuels. The quantity of bio-feedstock is then allocated to specific certified-sold products.

Sensil ByNature uses the ISCC plus certification to cut down on greenhouse gas emissions and its reliance on resources that aren't renewable. Customers can use clothing made from Sensil ByNature fabrics to make a significant contribution to lowering their carbon footprint while still receiving the same level of comfort, performance, and durability as Sensil brand products today.

At later stages of the garment life cycle, when they are no longer required, the extremely durable and wear-resistant products can be recycled and reused to further contribute to textile sustainability and circularity.

Sensil ByNature yarns are produced in accordance with Oeko-Tex standards, and Nilit's biomass balance approach is certified by ISCCplus.
