Fashion footwear retailer Schuh has partnered with Stockport-based acrylic manufacturer Floreeda to recycle old in-store footwear displays into new, eco-friendly risers for showcasing shoes.
Using its proprietary REFLO recycling technology, Floreeda transforms Schuh’s end-of-life acrylic risers into fresh display materials. REFLO works by converting discarded display products into 4mm acrylic granules, which are then reformed into new sheets without losing quality or appearance.
“This is about doing more good,” said Schuh visual merchandising lead Kathryn Masterman. “Working with partners like Floreeda helps us extend the life of materials, make smarter use of resources, and actively track and reduce our carbon footprint. So far, 190kg of recycled acrylic has been turned into 450 new children’s footwear risers.
The programme also allows end-of-life risers to be returned to Floreeda for continuous reuse. To raise awareness, QR codes on the new risers explain the recycling process and its environmental benefits.
“Acrylic can’t be recycled like other plastics,” explained Floreeda managing director Paul Jones. “REFLO offers a sustainable solution to recycle and repurpose waste acrylic products and off-cuts for a variety of industries.”
