SaXcell, Aditya Birla Group partner to introduce sustainable cellulosic fibers

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2023-11-01 16:08:47 – India

SaXcell, a pioneer in textile recycling, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with India's Aditya Birla Group's Birla Cellulose, one of the world's largest producers of man-made cellulosic fiber. This MoU sets the stage for an expanded collaboration between the two companies to produce recycled man-made cellulosic fibers.

The technology developed by SaXcell, which recycles textile waste into usable materials, will join forces with Birla's advanced wet spinning expertise. This collaboration aims to create high-quality, sustainable 'SaXcell' recycled fibers to meet the circular textile needs of customers on a larger scale.

Erik van der Weerd, CEO of SaXcell, emphasized that this partnership aligns with SaXcell's vision to establish a robust circular textile supply chain through cooperation and shared commitment. He stressed the need for global collaboration to address the social and environmental challenges facing the textile industry. Shifting from a linear to a circular economy is a pressing necessity, and the combined efforts of SaXcell and Birla offer an excellent opportunity to make a real impact.

Dr. Aspi Patel, Chief Technology Officer of Aditya Birla Group and Birla Cellulose, expressed the company's strong commitment to supporting innovators in expanding circular fiber offerings in the textile and non-woven value chain.

This collaboration is seen as a way to help SaXcell transition from a pilot phase to a commercial demonstration scale. Such partnerships are considered pivotal in accelerating circular practices in the global textile value chain.
