SATCoL, Landsec collaborate to initiate textile recycling

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2023-07-12 17:56:00 – United Kingdom

Landsec, a major commercial property giant, has teamed up with SATCoL by Salvation Army to add clothing donation banks to some of its retail locations to encourage more healthy and sustainable consumption of textiles.

Landsec's O2 shopping center in London and Braintree Village outlet in Essex are the two locations where the donation of used textiles has been introduced. In August, its W12 shopping center in London will be opened as a third bank.

Landsec will work with brands in its centers and use the banks to donate any end-of-sale-life items to help reduce textile waste among its visitors, the local community, and retailers in addition to providing a safe and efficient place for people to bring their used items. In the upcoming year, the goal is to collect more than 100 tons of donations. Profits from reselling donations will be donated to The Salvation Army to support its community outreach efforts.

Kirk Bradley, Head of Corporate Organizations at SATCoL, said: " The environmental change we want to see relies heavily on partnerships like this one. More donated clothing can be repurposed, resold, and money can be raised for important charity work thanks to Landsec and the community they serve."

Landsec's Chief Consumer Officer, Anna Hill, added, "We know our guests want to make more informed choices about how they consume. Whether it be donating used clothing or more access to pre-loved fashion, we want to give people the opportunity to be more conscious with their consumption and contribute to a healthier, more sustainable environment."
