YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2023-10-12 16:44:37 – United Kingdom

SailGP, a rapidly growing sports league, has joined hands with Mover, a pioneer in creating apparel without any plastic, to design the first-ever plastic-free technical sportswear. This innovative collaboration aims to revolutionize sportswear by using materials that are free from plastic.

The collaboration will introduce a capsule collection available for purchase immediately. Additionally, there are plans to develop a line of high-performance sportswear for athletes to test in sailing environments. The initial capsule collection includes various items like t-shirts, polos, and fleece hoodies, all made from 100 percent natural fibers and designed with plastic-free stitching, labelling, and water-based printing.

Fiona Morgan, Chief Purpose Officer at SailGP, expressed their ambition to be a purpose-driven and sustainable global sports and entertainment platform. She emphasized the importance of collaboration with innovative partners, highlighting their determination to reshape sports performance clothing using plastic-free materials, showcasing their commitment to sustainability.

The collaboration aims to showcase that high-performance sportswear doesn't have to rely on fossil-fuel-based fibers. By testing plastic-free technical sportswear in challenging environments, they hope to prove that top-quality textiles can be achieved without using materials derived from fossil fuels.

Nicolas Rochat, CEO and Founder of Mover, emphasized their collaboration with SailGP as an opportunity to demonstrate that natural fibers can excel in demanding sports. He expressed pride in designing materials that are highly technical, intelligent, and designed to be environmentally friendly, showing that such materials can be embraced in one of the toughest sports globally.

The collaboration between SailGP and Mover is supported by A Plastic Planet, an organization working to encourage the reduction of plastic usage worldwide. Founder Sian Sutherland conveyed their pride in bringing SailGP and Mover together to showcase the possibility of using natural, breathable materials in sportswear. This collaboration serves as a demonstration that change is feasible in the battle against plastic pollution.
