Portuguese textile company Riopele has strengthened its sustainability goals by achieving Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certification for textiles made from organic fibers.
“Riopele’s vision is to make fashion more sustainable by developing innovative and recycled fabrics, enhancing durability and circularity, using advanced technology to optimize production, and fostering an inclusive and respectful workplace,” said Isabel Domingues, Sustainability Director at Riopele.
The GOTS certification applies to textile products containing at least 70% organic fibers and is one of the most trusted standards among global consumers and industry partners seeking accountability and transparency in textiles.
According to Riopele, GOTS ensures the use of fibers from organic farming, free from harmful chemicals such as toxic heavy metals, aromatic solvents, or formaldehyde. The certification also guarantees full traceability throughout the supply chain. “This enables consumers to understand the origins of products and the conditions in which they were made, building greater trust and transparency in the sector,” the company explained in a statement.
