Rent the Runway partners with Google Cloud for IT infrastructure

E-commerce platform, Rent the Runway, has moved its entire IT infrastructure and platform to Google Cloud, to accommodate the “increasing demands of its company.

The online platform said that the change will boost platform dependability for its users and match infrastructure with business requirements.

The transition to Google Cloud, Rent the Runway continued, will enable the delivery of its workloads and applications throughout Google’s several geographically dispersed networks.

Launched in November 2009, the online platform lets users rent, subscribe to, or buy designer clothing and accessories. As the circular economy gained traction, revenues increased, and the business now has more than 2.5 million lifetime customers.

As the company is now operating on Google Cloud’s carbon-neutral infrastructure, Rent the Runway noted that the switch to Google Cloud will help it better fulfill its sustainability commitments.

A Rent the Runway spokesperson, said that at Rent the Runway, they invented a unique business model for clothes rental and subscription. The necessary off-the-shelf technology was lacking at the time. Therefore, they developed the technology necessary for reverse logistics and fashion rentals, which run the company.

Spokesperson added that the agility we need for long-term scalability was not provided by conventional hosting, but it was by their ability to swiftly spin up new service instances and accompanying technologies. By switching to Google Cloud, they can distribute their software assets across more types of physical hardware, boosting their overall availability. They just use the resources necessary to run their firm thanks to the technology’s flexibility. Google Cloud is more effective and shares their dedication to reducing carbon emissions through the use of waste diversion and 100% renewable energy.
