Renault taps pineapple fibers for sustainable interiors

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2025-05-13 18:07:39 – France

Renault is redefining material innovation with its hydrogen-hybrid concept car, the Emblem, featuring interior trims made from pineapple leaf fibers. This natural-to-industrial material leap could transform the future of automotive design.

In partnership with global automotive supplier Forvia, Renault has co-developed dashboard and door trim components using pineapple leaf fibers. This innovation debuted in the Emblem concept car, first revealed in October 2024.

More than just a showpiece, the Emblem is a fully functional demo vehicle aimed at future production, representing Renault’s broader commitment to sustainability beyond electrification.

Renault reports that the Emblem achieves a 90% reduction in lifecycle COâ‚‚ emissions compared to the 2019 Captur, thanks to improvements in both lightweight design and sustainable material use.

Though currently in the demo phase, Renault and Forvia plan to bring the Emblem closer to production, refining its unconventional design as needed. The integration of pineapple fibers signals a meaningful leap toward greener, high-quality automotive interiors.
