RadiciGroup Launches 100% naturally sourced yarn

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2023-03-23 14:58:23 ā€“ Italy

BiofeelĀ® Eleven is a natural-sourced yarn born of a story that begins in India. The word "Eranda" in Hindi refers to a tiny bean from which the ideal oil for the biopolymer, from which everything originates, is taken. These brand-new, 100% sustainable yarns, which may be used for fabrics and high-end apparel in a variety of industries, including fashion, sports, the automotive industry, and home textiles, are made from castor oil.

The only producer of this material in Europe, RadiciGroup, chose the "Performance Days" trade show (held in Munich on March 15 and 16) to introduce this yarn with exceptional technical and environmental performance.

Nowadays, 80% of the world's castor-oil crops are in India , notably in the Gujarat region, due to its advantageous climatic conditions. By using the talents they have honed over time in this activity, locals in this region can generate additional money by cultivating semi-arid terrain that does not compete with food production. The seeds from which the oil is produced have been chosen and certified to assure the highest quality over time owing to research, development, and innovation in the value chain, as well as in terms of end uses.

Around 45% of castor beans are made up of an oil that is high in ricinolein and used to make the biopolymer polyamide 11. RadiciGroup uses this polymer to create its BiofeelĀ® Eleven yarn. After the initial pressing, a highly effective bio-fertilizer is what is left, which is then applied to the soil. A true illustration of circularity and "zero waste," to put it briefly.

Marco De Silvestri, sales and marketing head of the Advanced Textile Solutions Business Area, said that BiofeelĀ® Eleven has unique and exceptional qualities, such as minimal water absorption, greater lightness, and improved strength properties. This entails being able to create materials that are supple to the touch and breathable for the skin. This translates into a variety of applications, including sportswear, workwear, fashionable clothing, and materials for high-end automobiles.
