Pure Denim, Highchem introduce biodegradable denim fabric

YarnsandFibers News Bureau 2025-11-21 14:49:17 – Italy

At the upcoming edition of Denim Première Vision, set to take place from November 26 to 27 at Superstudiopiù in Milan, Italian sustainable denim producer Pure Denim and Japanese chemical company Highchem will reveal a new biodegradable fabric designed to reduce environmental impact. This new material is called Permanent Bluette and will be featured in the Highlact Denim collection.

The collection will include denims made with Highlact fiber, a biodegradable, bio-based material created from polylactic acid. The fabric is Made in Italy and contains 65% cotton and 35% PLA, blending the natural qualities of classic fibers with the innovation of bio-industrial chemistry. The result is a denim made with more environmentally responsible methods.

Pure Denim, led by Luigi Caccia, has long focused on technologies that significantly lower water and chemical use in denim production. Its collaboration with Highchem is helping the company reach new milestones in sustainability.

“We are excited about this opportunity and what we have achieved with Highchem,” said Luigi Caccia. “As the textile industry is increasingly expected to adopt greener solutions, we are committed to bringing innovation to denim, everyone’s favorite fabric.”

Yuichi Taka, founder of Highchem, added, “The era of ‘use and throw’ fashion is over. Today, a garment’s value comes not only from its design but also from its responsibility. By combining Pure Denim’s leadership in sustainability with our expertise in materials science, we are truly changing the rules of this industry.”
